Some questions we've been asked
What is Codi Cymru?

Codi Cymru is a new platform created to recognise, champion, connect and develop the marketing community in Wales.

Our flagship initiative will be The Wales Marketing Awards, celebrating the people, teams, organisations and campaigns making a real difference through marketing. Over time, Codi Cymru will also deliver research, events, industry insight and talent programmes for marketers across Wales.

What does 'Codi' mean?

Codi is a Welsh word meaning to rise, raise or lift.

It reflects our ambition to lift marketers, raise the profile of the profession, elevate great work and help Welsh marketing reach even greater heights.

Why does Codi Cymru exist?

Brilliant marketing is happening throughout Wales, but the people and work behind it do not always receive the recognition they deserve.

Codi Cymru exists to change that. We want to raise the profile of marketing, demonstrate its contribution to organisations and communities, and create a platform that supports the profession throughout the year.

Who is Codi Cymru for?

Codi Cymru is for everyone who contributes to marketing in Wales.

That includes in-house teams, agencies, freelancers, consultants, students, graduates, educators, public-sector communicators, charities, business owners and industry partners. Whether you are beginning your career or have decades of experience, Codi Cymru is being built to represent and support you.

What are the Wales Marketing Awards?

The Wales Marketing Awards will be a new national celebration of marketing excellence.

The awards will recognise outstanding campaigns, strategic thinking, creative work, measurable impact, talented individuals and high-performing teams. They will be open to agencies, in-house marketers, freelancers, charities, public-sector organisations and businesses of every size.

What is planned for the future?

The Wales Marketing Awards are just the beginning.

Our long-term plans include original industry research, networking events, talks, mentoring, career resources, newsletters and opportunities to showcase the people and campaigns shaping marketing in Wales.

What's happening and when?

Codi Cymru's Wales Marketing Awards will take place on Thursday 8 April 2027 at The Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff.

Do you have to be based in Wales to enter the Wales Marketing Awards?

Not necessarily. We want to recognise work that has a meaningful connection to Wales, whether that’s through the organisation, team, audience, campaign or impact. Detailed criteria will be published for each category.

Will there be categories for smaller organisations and budgets?

Yes. We’re keen to make sure Codi Cymru doesn’t simply reward the biggest budgets. There will be opportunities to recognise brilliant thinking, effectiveness and impact at different scales.

How will the awards be judged?

Entries will be assessed by an independent panel of experienced marketing professionals against clear published criteria.

We want the judging process to be transparent, credible and fair.

Can I become a judge?

We’ll be inviting experienced marketers and industry specialists to join the judging panel.

Is Codi Cymru just an awards event?

No. The awards are where we’re starting, but the ambition is much bigger. Codi will grow into a platform for research, events, careers, mentoring, insight and initiatives designed to support marketing in Wales.

Will you make sure young and new talent are recognised?

Yes!

We want Codi Cymru to help create a stronger future for marketing in Wales, not just celebrate the people already established in the industry.

That means recognising rising talent, creating opportunities for younger marketers to connect with experienced professionals, and developing initiatives such as mentoring, careers content and events designed to help the next generation build their skills and networks.

Will the awards be Cardiff-centric?

No. We are for all marketers in Wales.

We want to recognise and connect marketers, agencies, in-house teams, freelancers and emerging talent from every part of the country.

One of our aims is to make sure great work and great people are visible wherever in Wales they are based.

Whilst our first event will be in Cardiff, we intend to create a fund to help marketers across Wales who don't have a budget for travel or accommodation to be in the room on the night.
