About us

Hello, we are Codi Cymru.

Codi Cymru has been created to celebrate, champion, connect and help develop the marketing community in Wales.

We’re starting with the Wales Marketing Awards, but our ambition is much bigger than creating an awards night.

We want to build something that brings the marketing industry in Wales closer together, celebrates the brilliant work happening here, creates opportunities for people to meet and learn from each other and helps develop the next generation of marketing talent.

Everything we do will be built around four ideas:

  • We will recognise marketing excellence
  • We will champion marketing
  • We will connect marketers
  • We will help cultivate the next generation of marketing talent in Wales

Our first Wales Marketing Awards will bring together marketers, agencies, organisations, freelancers, students, emerging talent and the wider industry, but our ambition is for Codi Cymru to become a community that people engage with throughout the year.

That could mean events, content, conversations, research, networking, partnerships and new initiatives that help strengthen marketing in Wales.

We’re at the beginning of that journey, which makes this a particularly exciting time to join us.

Why are we recruiting?

Codi Cymru is growing quickly and we’ve been overwhelmed by how much support we’ve received so far which has cemented our belief that the time is now.

As we work towards our first Wales Marketing Awards, we want to make sure we are also building the community around them.

We don’t want Codi Cymru to simply appear once a year when awards entries open.

We want it to become part of the Welsh marketing industry throughout the year, and we need someone who can help us make that happen.

This is initially a six-month fixed-term position designed to help us accelerate the growth of Codi Cymru during an important stage in its development but a role that we want to see work and grow.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a Community and Partnerships Manager who can help turn Codi Cymru from a new organisation into a thriving and engaged community.

This is not simply a social media role.

We’re looking for somebody who enjoys meeting marketing and agency folk, starting conversations, building relationships and finding opportunities to bring people together.

You’ll get to know marketers, agencies, businesses, universities, partners, students and emerging talent across Wales and help us understand how Codi Cymru can genuinely add value to the industry.

You’ll also play an important role in building awareness and participation around the Wales Marketing Awards.

What will our Community and Partnerships Manager do?

Our Community and Partnerships Manager will be responsible for growing, engaging and supporting the Codi Cymru community.

They will build relationships across the Welsh marketing industry, develop partnerships, identify stories and people worth celebrating and help create opportunities for the community to connect.

A key part of the role will be listening to the industry and understanding what marketers across Wales want and need from Codi Cymru.

The role will also support the development and delivery of the Wales Marketing Awards and other Codi Cymru initiatives.

Who will our Community and Partnerships Manager work with?

  • Internal: Codi Cymru founders and team members; marketing and events support; administrative support.
  • External: Marketers; marketing agencies; in-house marketing teams; freelancers; universities and colleges; students and emerging talent; sponsors; judges; speakers; professional bodies; industry organisations; media owners; event suppliers and other partners.
What will our Community and Partnerships Manager be responsible for?
  • Building relationships with marketers, agencies, organisations and individuals across Wales
  • Growing awareness of Codi Cymru and encouraging people to become part of the community
  • Identifying and setting up events that our community will benefit from and want to attend
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with potential partners and supporters
  • Identifying organisations, people, campaigns and achievements that Codi Cymru should champion
  • Starting and participating in conversations across social media and other community channels
  • Responding to comments, questions and messages from the Codi Cymru community
  • Helping grow the Codi Cymru mailing list and wider community database
  • Identifying potential speakers, contributors, judges, ambassadors and community advocates
  • Developing relationships with universities and colleges to help engage students and emerging marketing talent
  • Supporting community events, networking opportunities and other Codi Cymru activity
  • Helping build awareness of the Wales Marketing Awards
  • Encouraging organisations and individuals to enter the awards
  • Supporting communications with entrants, judges, sponsors, partners and attendees
  • Working with the wider team to identify content opportunities and community stories
  • Helping develop newsletters, social content, interviews and other community communications
  • Running or supporting community polls, surveys and research
  • Gathering feedback from the community and using it to help shape future Codi Cymru activity
  • Identifying new ideas, initiatives and partnerships that could help Codi Cymru grow
  • Tracking community growth, engagement and participation
What is the work going to be like?

Day to day, your tasks might include:

  • Meeting a marketer for coffee to hear about what they’re working on
  • Attending an industry event and introducing Codi Cymru to people who haven’t heard about us before
  • Speaking to a university about how their students could become involved with Codi Cymru
  • Identifying a brilliant Welsh marketing campaign that we should be talking about
  • Starting a conversation with a potential sponsor or partner
  • Finding potential judges or speakers for future Codi Cymru activity
  • Responding to questions about the Wales Marketing Awards
  • Encouraging businesses to enter the awards
  • Helping organise Codi Cymru networking events or industry discussions
  • Speaking to members of the community about what they would like Codi Cymru to do next
  • Working with the wider team on social media content and newsletters
  • Looking at community data to understand how engagement is growing
  • Coming up with an idea we haven’t thought of yet

No two days are likely to look the same.

Those who will succeed will be:
  • Natural relationship builders
  • Confident communicators
  • Curious about people and what they do
  • Comfortable starting conversations with people they don’t already know
  • Enthusiastic about bringing people together
  • Organised and able to manage multiple relationships and conversations at the same time
  • Comfortable representing an organisation at events and meetings
  • Creative and willing to suggest new ideas
  • Proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Good listeners
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Strong writers who can communicate clearly and naturally
  • Interested in marketing, communications and the creative industries
  • Able to understand that building a community is about providing value rather than constantly promoting something
  • Focused on their personal and professional development
We’re looking for someone who has:
  • Experience in community management, marketing, communications, partnerships, events or a related role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience building professional relationships
  • Confidence networking and representing an organisation externally
  • Experience using social media professionally, particularly LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Strong organisational skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and relationships at once
  • Experience working independently and taking ownership of projects
  • An understanding of marketing and the wider creative industries
  • An ability to spot interesting stories, people and opportunities
  • Experience developing partnerships or collaborations would be advantageous
  • Experience organising or supporting events would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the Welsh marketing industry would be a real advantage
  • Welsh language skills would be advantageous

Above all, we’re looking for someone with the right attitude.

You don’t necessarily need to have held the job title Community Manager before.

If you’re naturally brilliant at connecting people, building relationships and making things happen, we’d like to hear from you.

Hours and environment

This is a full-time role offered on an initial six-month fixed-term contract that we hope will continue.

The role will be based in Cardiff with hybrid working available.

Because this is a community-focused position, there will be times when being out meeting people, attending events or representing Codi Cymru will be an important part of the job.

Some events may take place outside normal working hours, so we expect a reasonable degree of flexibility. Equally, we believe strongly that good work shouldn’t require people to be permanently available.

We want someone who can manage their time well, take ownership of the role and focus on making an impact during the six-month contract.

What’s in it for you?

In return for your dedication and hard work, you can expect:

  • A salary of £30,000–£35,000 pro rata, depending on experience
  • A 4 Day Working Week for 5 days' pay
  • 40 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Subsidised eye care
  • Private medical insurance with BUPA Healthcare
  • Hybrid working
  • The opportunity to join Codi Cymru at the very beginning of its journey
  • A role where you can have a genuine influence over how the organisation develops
  • The chance to build relationships with some of the most interesting marketers, agencies and organisations in Wales
  • A high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to bring your own ideas to the role
  • The chance to help build something designed to have a positive, long-term impact on the Welsh marketing industry
  • The opportunity to play an important role in delivering the Wales Marketing Awards
  • Plenty of opportunities to attend events, meet people and become part of the wider Welsh marketing community
  • Codi Cymru is a wholly owned entity of Hello Starling, so whilst you will be employed by Codi Cymru Events Limited, you’ll receive similar benefits to your colleagues employed by Hello Starling

Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape what Codi Cymru becomes.

What would success look like after six months?

By the end of the six-month contract, we would hope to have:

  • A significantly larger and more engaged Codi Cymru community
  • Strong relationships with marketers, agencies and organisations across Wales
  • Increased awareness and participation in the Wales Marketing Awards
  • A growing database of people who want to hear from and engage with Codi Cymru
  • New partnerships and collaborations established
  • A handful of events lined up and in the calendar
  • Strong relationships with universities and emerging marketing talent
  • A regular pipeline of people, campaigns and stories for Codi Cymru to champion
  • Successful community conversations and events
  • Clear feedback and insight about what the Welsh marketing community wants from Codi Cymru next
  • A strong foundation from which Codi Cymru can continue to grow

But success isn’t only about follower numbers or database growth.

The biggest measure will be whether people begin to feel that Codi Cymru is something they are part of, and we will measure what people think and feel about us as time goes on.

Closing date

We don’t have a closing date in mind and will interview candidates on a rolling basis, either in person or by video call, as and when we spot a great application.

If you’re the sort of person who finds yourself walking into a room and thinking “Who should I introduce to who?”, we’d really like to hear from you.

Please share your CV showing us what you've been up to and a covering letter telling us why you think you're the right person for this role, to hello@codi.cymru.
