Creative Partner — Expression of Interest
This is your invitation to help shape Codi Cymru
Codi Cymru is being created to recognise, champion and connect the marketing community in Wales.
Our first Codi Cymru Wales Marketing Awards will take place at The Parkgate Hotel, Cardiff, on Thursday 8 April 2027. It will bring together marketers, agencies, media owners and emerging talent from across Wales.
We’ve already started building our identity. We have our name, logo and core typeface, but it’s now time to build the world around them.
We need support with how Codi Cymru looks, moves, sounds and how it makes people feel, and we’d like Welsh creative talent to help us do it.
We’re inviting designers, freelancers, studios and creative agencies based in Wales to submit an Expression of Interest to become the creative partner for Codi Cymru.
This isn’t about replacing what we have; it’s about taking those foundations and building a distinctive, flexible and recognisable brand around them.
What we need
Between now and April 2027, Codi Cymru will need creative support across a wide range of touchpoints.
That is likely to include:
- Awards invitations and announcements
- Event programmes and printed collateral
- Social media content and templates
- Motion graphics and animation
- Digital advertising
- Out-of-home advertising
- Print advertising
- Email and newsletter assets
- Category and finalist announcements
- Sponsor and partner materials
- Event signage, screens and wayfinding
- Stage and presentation graphics
- Marketing and advertising campaign concepts
- Assets for the awards ceremony itself
There will almost certainly be things we haven't thought of yet, but we see that as part of the opportunity and the rollercoaster of a ride that we’re going on!
We want a creative partner who will bring ideas to the table rather than simply respond to a list of deliverables. We want you to be in it, together, with us.
How we look and sound
We're not starting with a blank sheet of paper. We have our logo and chosen typeface, alongside the beginnings of a visual identity and a tone of voice, but what we don't yet have is the wider creative system that makes Codi Cymru instantly recognisable wherever people encounter it.
Visually, we want to explore areas such as colour, imagery, photography, illustration, motion, layouts, patterns and other distinctive brand assets.
We know who we are, but we’re looking for help to develop a recognisable personality and tone that can run through everything from a six-word outdoor headline to an email, social post, website, invitation or awards-night script.
The result should feel contemporary, confident, easy and attractive to marketers and unmistakably Codi Cymru.
And while our first event is an awards programme, we plan to run multiple events in 2027 that are focused on bringing the marketing world in Wales together, so the brand system needs to work beyond an awards event.
Why we're opening this up
One of the principles behind Codi Cymru is supporting and showcasing the talent that already exists here in Wales, so rather than automatically appointing someone we already know, we want to give Welsh designers and creative businesses the opportunity to become part of the Codi Cymru story and journey.
That could be an established agency, a small studio or a brilliant freelancer (or, a mixture of all three!).
We're much more interested in the thinking, ideas and creative potential than the size of the business.
What we'd like from you
We are not asking for speculative finished creative work. We don't expect anyone to spend two weeks designing an entire identity for free.
If you want to develop some example ideas or rough creative concepts, you're very welcome to, but it isn't a requirement.
Instead, we'd like a concise Expression Of Interest that gives us enough to understand how you think and where you might take Codi Cymru.
Please include:
1. Your initial reaction
What excites you about Codi Cymru and this opportunity?
Tell us what you see in the brand and where you think the creative opportunity lies.
2. A mood board
Show us the territory you think could be interesting for Codi Cymru.
This could include visual references, inspiration, colour, typography, photography, illustration, motion, materials, environments, language, words, cultural references or anything else that helps us understand your direction.
3. Your creative approach
How would you take our existing logo and typeface and begin building an identity around them?
What would you explore? What would you challenge? What could make Codi Cymru distinctive?
4. Bringing it to life
Give us some thoughts about how the identity could translate across different environments, particularly social, motion, advertising, online, print and at events.
These can be descriptions, sketches, references or rough ideas.
5. About you
Tell us a little about you or your business, where in Wales you're based and show us a small selection of relevant work.
6. How you'd work with us
Give us an indication of how you would approach an ongoing relationship between appointment and April 2027, including who would work with us.
7. Costs
We're not expecting you to price every possible piece of collateral at this stage.
We would, however, like an indication of your typical charging structure and how you think the relationship could work commercially, for example, project fees, retained support, day rates or a combination.
The process
You'll have two weeks from publication of this brief to send us your Expression of Interest.
We deliberately want the first stage to be relatively light-touch.
Following the deadline, submissions will be reviewed against a set of criteria and a shortlist created.
Who will be reviewing the EOIs?
We're assembling an independent panel of experienced marketers and agencies from across Wales, representing a cross-section of industries, organisations, career stages and positions within the profession because we want different perspectives around the table.
The panel will help us assess the submissions and decide which creative partners we'd like to invite through to the next stage.
It also means your work and thinking will be seen by some brilliant people from across the Welsh marketing community.
What happens next?
